ROLE OF DIVINATION PRACTICE ON PSYCHOLOGICAL WELLBEING OF OMAMBALA NATIVES IN ANAMBRA STATE

The study examined role of divination practice on psychological wellbeing of Omambala Natives in Anambra State using 66 Omambala natives (17 women and 39 men) from Anambra North senatorial zone of Anambra State, Nigeria. The age of the participants’ ranged from 18 to 78 with mean age 22.8 and standard deviation 11.4. The study’s instruments were Divination Practice Questionnaire, and Ryff’s Psychological Well-being Scale. The design was correlational, while statistics was Multiple Linear Regressions. Findings were that divination reasonableness significantly but negatively predicted psychological wellbeing, while divination efficacy and irrationality significantly and positively predicted psychological wellbeing among Omambala natives in Anambra State. Recommendation was that psychoeducation programme should be put in place in every towns and community to educate the masses on psychological and health implications of divination practices and its efficacy in promoting psychological wellbeing.
