Temporal and Semantic Analysis of Chinese verb-resultatives

Abstract

In modern Chinese grammar, Resultative complement is a core aspect of verb complement structure. Over the past 50 years, scholars have described and studied various aspects of verb complement, such as its origin, syntactic structure etc. The main objective of this work is to do an empirical analysis of the temporal and semantic relation existing between verbs and its complements in a resultative. We employed the use of different criteria to classify resultatives，we looked mainly at the temporal features and the semantic orientation of verb complements. "The Gallant Maidian" is the main corpus for this research. 动结式（结果补语）是动补结构的一个核心问题。 在近代汉语语法中，动结式占了很重要的位置. 近50年，不少的专家学者已经描述和研究了动结式补语的各种方面的问题，如来源、产生、形式、发展过程等。我们从不同角度分析了动结式所表示出的语义。我们使用了不同的标准给动结式分类，如： 有时间特征的语义分析、补语语义指向的特征、动结式结构［V＋ C］的语义指向关系。我们把《儿女英雄传》作为我们主要研究的文库。
